Echinodorus 'Rubin'

| Echinodorus 'Rubin' after it had been in my aquarium for 5 months |
Common name
Red Rubin
Description
In a rosette growing aquarium plant. This plant can become up
to 60 cm high and can be a striking, large plant with brown-red leaves. This
is a relative new plant, that's for sale since 1993.
My experiences
Despite the height this plant can reach I have planted this
plant in front of my aquarium at first, where it replaced E. x barthii. The
first picture of this page shows how this plant looked on this place after about
two months. At that time the plant had reached a height of about 20 cm. After
about 3 months this plant was about 30 cm high, which made it too big to stand
in front of my aquarium. Therefore I moved this plant to the back of my
aquarium. After about five months I removed this plant from my aquarium. This
was not because it didn't grew well anymore, but because the plant didn't look
nice in contrast with the back wall of my aquarium. Because the back wall of my
aquarium is black, this red brown plant fell away in contrast with the back wall
of my aquarium. The second picture of this page shows how this plant looked when
I removed it. At time the plant had reached a height of about 45 cm.
| Place and lighting in my aquarium |
This
plant did stand on the mid-front and right-back of my aquarium.. The
lighting I used at the time was a 0.42 Watt/liter lumilux TL lighting
(2*18 Watt). |
