My experiences
I've kept this plant in my aquarium for about one month. Although
in books this plant is described as the easiest to keep
specie of Althernanthera reineckii, this plant didn't grow very well in my
aquarium. For the time I had this plant in my aquarium it only grew a bit. This
can come because a number of factors in my aquarium, but most likely the light
above my aquarium is not strong enough. Also this plant was a bit overshadowed
by another plant in my aquarium that stood next to it, which probably also
didn't benefit the growth of this plant in my aquarium. Another reason for the
poor growth of this plant in my aquarium can be the so called "cold
feet", because of the low temperature of the room my aquarium stands in (in
fall and winter never above the 15 ºC, at the time I had this plant I noticed
all the plants grow a bit slower than normal because of the low room
temperature). The last reason why this plant didn't grow well in my aquarium can
be because the plants I put in my aquarium had a lot of broken leaves, which
probably also didn't work in advantage of the plants.
| Place and lighting in my aquarium |
This
plant stood in the mid-back of my aquarium. The lighting I used at the
time was a 0.42 Watt/liter lumilux TL lighting (2*18 Watt). |
